Get You some Gangsta’

I am by no means any sort of rap connoisseur and I don’t know every Jay-Z or Tupac lyric, but I enjoy a good sixteen and when I come across a bomb one? I am now Young Nov. Please address me as such.

It’s around 5:30 pm and I’ve just been relieved of my 9-5 duties. I’ve made sure to use the bathroom before braving Atlanta traffic because you just never really know. It’s been one of those painfully long days filled with way too many questions and the only thing that will cure my built up irritation from being forced to interact with people is some LOUD A** MUSIC.

I’m really looking for something I can go in for a full song. All the way through. An extra special full verse &hook. A library selection consisting of 21 Savage, Kendrick, Drake, Bun B, Yg, and of course some old Gucci and Lil Wayne should do the trick. An ode to the Millennial southern hip hop memory box. Don’t let it include a fire feature. I’m talking puns, ad-libs, alliteration, no music, allat’ lol.

That moment when you look into your rearview and see me killing it in the driver seat; rapper hands ablaze; might throw in an imaginary gang sign or two if necessary. Please understand when the traffic finally opens up that I like it loud with my windows down.

For a nice release after a long day. My suggestion? Find something that makes you feel gangsta. “Gangsta” is confident. “Gangsta” is unstoppable and sure. “Gangsta” is also financially stable, which feels good too.

I don’t know what it is but there is something about hearing the intro to your jam. When that first beat drops before a word is said and the surrounding cars don’t even understand that it’s about to go down. Right here. In this Kia Optima drivers seat.

Now I’m not saying gun violence, misogyny, or criminal activity are topics to find relief in, but the swag, the song, the bass, and the bounce is guaranteed to make me feel good. So the next time you have one of those long days, make sure to get you some gangsta’.
